RPMD – Residents of Randburg turned out in force on Saturday 15 August for a community cleanup organized by Randburg Precinct Management District aptly called Randburg Saturdays, filling 29 bags of litter and leaving the area looking noticeably greener.
Nineteen registered volunteers – excluding the organizing team – took part. Among them were three returning participants, described by Mr Richard Ntjana, the Chief Executive Officer of the Randburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry as “heroes,” alongside 15 people joining for the first time. The group worked together to remove rubbish from local streets and public spaces, contributing to a cleaner environment for the wider community.
The organizers expressed their gratitude to everyone involved. “A massive thank you to every single person who gave their time,” said Mr Dalu Cele of Clean City SA. “Whether you were back for more or joining us for the first time – you made a real difference.”
Dalu added that the event embodied the spirit of the initiative: “New faces, big hearts, and a cleaner Randburg. That’s what it’s all about.” The event saw such high profile media coverage from organizations such as DSTV M-net’s Carte Blanche team, IOL, Randburg Sun and other local media organizations.
The clean-up is part of an ongoing series of Saturday efforts aimed at improving the local area.
Organizers say they look forward to seeing volunteers at the next event.
